Otonashi-bashi (Otonashi Bridge), located just near Oji Station in
Kita-ku, Tokyo. The bridge was originally constructed in 1930 to cross
Shakujii River. After the postwar improvement works, the route of the
river was changed, and it now flows into a tunnel. The local government
once had a plan to remove Otonashi-bashi. However, thanks to the
movement against the removal, the plan was changed, and the bridge was
preserved together with "Otonashi Shinsui Park" just underneath.
The structure and the exterior of the bridge resemble those of
Hijiri-bashi bridge of Ochanomizu, Tokyo, but while Hijiri-bashi is of
single span, Otonashi-bashi is a triple-span bridge. The photograph
shows the central arch.
