The Clifton Suspension Bridge that links both sides of the deep Avon Valley in the city of Bristol in south-western England. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it is regarded as one of his major masterpieces. However, the story here is a bit more complicated. The construction of the bridge, which began in 1831, delayed badly, and discontinued in 1842 after only the towers on both banks were completed. After Brunel's death in 1859, one of his colleagues in the Institution of Civil Engineers resumed construction, and it was finally completed in 1864. It is a single-span suspension bridge, suspended by eye-bar chains, with the span length of 214m. Being a toll road, even now it accepts automobiles with the price of only 20p per car.
