The chief executive of Virgin Trains admits that trains will never going to run at 140mph, the final target speed of the West Coast Main Line upgrade, the article reports. One reason, it says, is that even if trains do run at 140mph, the travel time between Carlisle and London Euston will only be cut by 10 minutes. Fair enough.
