Last updated 5 October 2002 Canal near Brindley Place, Birmingham, UKPhotograph taken on: 21 July 2001. (Larger image) The canal near Broad Street Tunnel in Birmingham city centre. The canal was opened in late 18th century, and had been the only way to carry goods until the railways were in service. The area was re-developed in the late 1990s. In the centre of the picture where a cable-stayed footbridge can be seen is Brindley Place, the centre of this regeneration project, now one of the newest tourists' attractions in central Birmingham.
