TRTA Metro privatisation bill to Japanese Diet (Parliament)
The long disputed privatisation of TRTA (Teito Rapid Transit Authority) seems to have been given a go-ahead. The public corporation, formed in the pre-war period of 1941 and has been the only functioning one of such kind in the postwar Japan (although the former Japanese National Railways was also a public corporation, they could never be free from politicians' interference), will be privatised in April 2004. The idea I oppose is the name of the new company, "Tokyo Chikatetsu (Underground Railway) Company". What is the point of throwing away the well-established "Eidan Metro" brand name?
